Jaguar Launches New XF Diesel S Model

Jaguar has announced a new diesel engine to be installed in the XF and also the Jaguar XJ. The powerplant is developed from the current 2.7 diesel unit, with its capacity raised to 3.0 litres, but with 2 different power levels, 240 and 275 horsepower.

New Jaguar Diesel Engine

The 275 horsepower variant creates a whole new model in the XF line up - the XF Diesel S. Jaguar feel the extra power warrants an individual model, as performance is said to be fantastic, rivalling the BMW 535d with a huge 600 Nm of torque. This give some very impressive performance stats: a 0-60 of 5.9 seconds, 50-70 mph in 3.2 seconds, and a limited top speed of 155 mph. These numbers mean the new Jaguar XF Diesel S up 33 percent on power and has 61 percent more torque from 1500 rpm than the old 2.7 litre unit, and with 10% lower CO2 emissions at 179 g/km.

The standard 240 horsepower version still has 240 bhp, well up on the 207 bhp from the current 2.7 diesel - a 16% increase and a 15% increase in torque. This gives a 0-60 time of 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph. Startlingly both of these engines increase fuel economy figures to 42mpg, 10% up on the 2.7 with lower emissions.

“The new XF challenges the rules and redefines Jaguar sporting luxury. Our designers and engineers have worked together to develop elegant, inspired solutions to complex technical challenges. It’s a simple but very effective philosophy and the result is great new products like the new 3.0-litre diesel XF.”
Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director, Jaguar Cars

These new models ensure Jaguar has all the tools in its arsenal it need to retain its mantle as the best car in class when the worth but dull looking new E-Class Merc and new BMW 5 Series are launched later in the year.
